Chrysler To Expand NZ Car Line-Up With New Sebring

The new Chrysler Sebring, just unveiled at the London Motor Show, will sit between the hot rod-inspired Chrysler PT Cruiser and the award-winning, Chrysler 300C ?two of the most eye-catching cars on the road.

The Chrysler Sebring will turn heads with its sleek new body shape inspired by the 2003 Geneva Motor Show concept vehicle, the Airflite. The Sebring retains the elegant, sleek-back design, long fluted bonnet and Chrysler signature grille.

When it goes on sale next year, the Chrysler Sebring will provide an opportunity to own a vehicle that stands out from the rest of the mid-size sedan market.

“Just as the PT Cruiser and 300C both stand out from the crowd, the new Sebring will be distinctive and attract people who are not interested in owning an ordinary car,?says Brett Aspden, General Manager of the Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler New Zealand.

“But most of all, the Sebring will fill a gap in our line-up because at present we do not offer a mid-size car. The Sebring will complement our existing range of vehicles and help establish Chrysler as a fully fledged franchise in New Zealand.?/FONT>

The Sebring will certainly reinforce the exciting credentials of the Chrysler brand in this market, which has benefited immensely from the success of the 300C over the past six months.

Chrysler has gone from strength-to-strength, growing its New Zealand sales in the first half of 2006 by more than 75% over 2005 on a year to date basis. This increase echoes the growth seen in the United States where Chrysler brand sales have jumped 251% since 1990 - no other American automotive brand has grown as much during the same time frame.

Chrysler received another boost in the recently announced JD Power & Associates 2006 Initial Quality Study in the US. In that report, the Chrysler brand moved up 10 positions to be inside the Top 10, alongside Honda’s Acura brand. Chrysler is looking to build further on that success with the Sebring, a car named after one of the most famous race circuits in America.

In addition to the sculpted and elegant exterior, the Sebring sports a finely crafted interior, inspired by the Chrysler uplifted winged badge design. And, just like the Chrysler 300C, expect the Sebring to be very well equipped and specified with the very latest safety technology, including Traction Control, Electronic Stability Programme and energy absorbing materials designed to maximize occupant safety.

Chrysler plans to offer a range of power options for international markets, including the brand new 2.4-litre 4-cylinder World engine, 2.7-litre V6 and the latest generation 302Nm 2-litre common rail diesel with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
